The Wilson County chapter of the North Carolina A&T University Alumni Association held its annual Crawford E. Lane, Sr., Scholarship Banquet on March 22 and announced $17,500 in scholarships and stipends for graduating local seniors who will enter A&T this fall. The chapter awarded the following five scholarships: Kaitlynn McNeill of Fike High School, $3,000; Jacob Jones,( WICA), $2500; Caleb Winstead (Fike), Alexis Clemmons (Hunt), and Jelena Sharpe (Beddingfield), $2000 each.
Additionally, the following seniors from Wilson Preparatory, Sallie B. Howard, WAAT, and Fike high schools will receive educational stipends of $1000 upon their enrollment at A&T this fall: Ke’Andre Barnes, JaBria Mitchell, Antonio Darden, LaMonte Eugene Lucas, Kwavarus Glover-Barnes, Aubreyona Swinson, Aniyah Yancey, Kayla Battle, NaTya Elliott and Madeleine Williams.
Scholarship committee member, Randolph Sessoms presented the prizes. “We are grateful for the continuing support of the contributors who make these awards possible each year,” he said.
Retired Judge Paul L. Jones, a member of the NCA&T Board of Trustees, gave the keynote address. He spoke about the history and growth of A&T as the country’s largest HBCU.
